In Cameroon, the local implementing partner of BAAC is the Business Council for Africa (BCA) formerly the West African Business Association (WABA). BAAC is working with key public departments such as the supreme state control ministry (the state auditor) as well as the customs and revenue departments to streamline procedures in improving governance.

A reform package for company law towards strengthening transparency and accountability in the public and private sectors is being developed through the Prime Minister’s Investment Council (PMIC), and under the chairmanship of the deputy prime minister and the minister of justice. The Cameroon Investment Forum held in April 2009 and organised by the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC) with the support of the government, endorsed the link between better governance and increased investment, reinforcing the need for initiatives that strengthen corporate governance systems. The Cameroonian chapter of BAAC also focuses on the following priority areas:

  • Training and capacity development in the area of corporate governance.
  • Fiscal revenue performance (focus on excise, customs and corporation tax).
